What do Jesus and drug dealers have in common? Apparently they’re not so different, according to Godspell star Hunter Parrish. The actor will play the son of God in the musical's upcoming Broadway revival, having recently finished his seventh season as hunky marijuana peddler Silas Botwin on TV’s Weeds. Broadway.com recently chatted with Parrish about a key similarity he thinks exists between the projects.
“I hope that people who like Weeds will also like what Godspell is about, which is sharing the love,” Parrish said of his forthcoming character transition. “See, they’re both the same thing! It’s all about sharing the love!”
Godspell will mark Parrish’s first return to Broadway after his debut as a replacement Melchior in Spring Awakening in 2008. “I’m so excited to be back,” he said shortly before the show's first day of rehearsal. "There’s such a community here.”
Audiences can share the love with Parrish and his Godspell co-stars including Wallace Smith, Telly Leung, Lindsay Mendez and Anna Marie Perez de Tagle when the production begins previews on October 13 at Circle in the Square Theatre.
